Jamee Natella Interview

Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start writing.

I’m originally from Chicago, but Live in Los Angeles and my career in production often took me around the world. While traveling for work, I always had my young son with me, and he was naturally curious about the differences he noticed in other countries. He would ask questions about cultural contrasts, like why the British use different words for common things compared to Americans, why they drive on the left side of the road, why the Japanese use chopsticks instead of forks, or he even asked about systems of government, like why some countries still have kings and queens.

His curiosity inspired me to try to answer his questions and help him understand the beauty of cultural diversity. I realized there was a need for a book to educate children on these differences in a meaningful way. When I visited libraries and bookstores searching for resources, I noticed most books catered to travel tips, destinations, or fun tourist activities. There was nothing specifically designed to help children transition into a new culture or understand that, while we may live differently and have diverse traditions, we share universal values and beliefs. This realization led me to create a book series to bridge that gap and inspire cultural understanding among young readers.

Describe your writing process? Is there anything unique about it?
My writing process starts by exploring questions from my son or audience to better understand their perspective. I ensure the content resonates with them by having them review it for clarity and relevance to their demographic. What makes my writing unique is the incorporation of elements like British vs. American English, making learning about cultural differences engaging and fun through relatable stories. My characters are diverse and dynamic, offering something for everyone Each character brings a special connection to the story, making it relatable to a wide range of readers.

Have you published any books or do you have a desire to do so?
My book, Sam in London, " Cheeky Kids, Medieval Blokes, and Giant Trousers" is the first in a trilogy designed to teach kids about other cultures and show them that, while we may live differently, we share similar values. The story follows an American boy who moves to London, where he learns to navigate a new culture, overcome anxiety, make new friends, and adapt to the challenges of moving. It’s a fun and engaging way for kids to understand cultural differences through relatable experiences.

The book is part of a larger brand called Worldride Adventures, which aims to inspire global learning and cultural exchange. We’ve created eco-friendly backpacks made from recycled bottles, combining sustainability with functionality. Our brand also includes an immersive website where kids can explore global cultures through interactive content and a global newsletter, making cultural education accessible even for families who can’t travel.

With Sam and London as the cornerstone of this initiative, the trilogy and the Worldride Adventures brand work together to spark curiosity and understanding in young minds. For more about the book, the backpacks, and the immersive learning experience, visit our website.

Do you have any favorite poets or authors?
Margaret George the way she writes is beautiful, J.K Rowling is magical, Jeff Kinney, Judy Blume is just Brilliant, Brad Thor and Jacqueline Wilson to name a few.

Do you have a favorite book of poetry or poems?
I love reading biographies and memoirs about inspiring individuals. Margaret George is one of my favorite authors, especially The Memoirs of Cleopatra. I’ve read everything from Nelson Mandela’s story to accounts of people who have shown incredible tenacity and achieved remarkable goals. I’m also a big fan of Richard Branson—I admire his energy, positivity, and innovative mindset.

When it comes to children’s books, I can’t help but be enchanted by the magic of Harry Potter. But I also gravitate toward timeless classics like Goodnight Moon and The Giving Tree, which are so heartfelt and inspiring. I adore This Is My World by Lonely Planet, a book where you meet 84 kids from around the globe, as well as travel book series and fact-based books like The Big World of Fun Facts. These books make learning fun for kids while broadening their perspectives on the world and its many cultures. I also find that these books aren’t just for kids—they often teach me something new or remind me of valuable lessons in a fresh way.

What are you reading now?
The Covenant of Water, A novel by Verghese Abraham as well as a business book called,
Hollywood Virgin By Jason Felts

What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Full-time job, pets, hobbies?
I enjoy spending time with my dogs, my son, and connecting with nature through hikes. I also love to run and work on improving my guitar skills. Pilates is another passion of mine—it helps me stay centered and focused. One of my favorite ways to unwind is sitting in front of the ocean with the sun beaming on my face, soaking in its beauty and serenity while reading a good book.

Are you working on a current project?
Currently, I am focused on completing the next two installments of my children’s book series while ensuring the success of Sam in London. I’m also dedicated to bringing more awareness to my brand, www.worldrideadventures.com and expanding its reach to inspire and educate children globally.
